Break over

Hey,

After all that damn painting last year I decided I need a little break...

I still have a few paintings left to complete this series I believe, then exhibition time. I have started to sell a few prints, if you'd like to order one, here's some details from a flyer I had made up, obviously ignore the bottom part, you're already lookin' at it...and here's what's on offer too.

Up next is a Buddy Holly portrait, then a Sister Rosetta Tharpe portrait, then 3 more smaller paintings, the done!!

Hopefully I'll post Buddy rough next week.

Fab!

Hey,

Finished John and George portrait. Kinda very cartoon like. I was a big fan of the 60s Beatles cartoon as a kid. Think this had an influence on the painting, as I guess did the Beatles' very cartoon like persona's of 64', Hard Days Night and all that.

Here tis'

Also, changed Hendix song. Decided on another song from "Axis: Bold As Love", "Little Wing".
Part of the decision for this was lyric imagery, easier to interpret,  part was due to it having more "play-ability", as I'm hoping all the songs in this series will get performed at the exhibition opening.

Here's the rough.

Here's the lyrics.

Jimi Hendrix – Little Wing Lyrics
Well she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mime
That's running wild
Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams
And fairly tales,

That's all she ever thinks about

Riding with the wind

When I'm sad she comes to me
With a thousand smiles
She gives to me free

It's alright, she says
It's alright
Take anything you want from me
Anything

Fly on, little wing

After this I've got a couple more portrait paintings to do, starting with a tribute to the guys I named the whole series after. The Young Brothers, George, Malcolm and Angus. So sad to hear about Malcolm last week. Such a great rhythm guitar player, one of a kind, but so many damn imitators!

Malcolm with the Gretch and Marshall.Classic.

     Malcolm and Angus.

Older Young brother George, with songwriting/producing partner and Easybeats band mate Harry Vanda.

Also would like to do a tribute to 4 great Telecaster players, James Burton, Steve Cropper., Jesse Ed Davis and Clarence White. And maybe a couple more guitar hero portraits. Who that may be is yet to be decided.....

Diamonds

Howdy,

Finished Joan Baez "Diamonds & Rust" painting on Monday night. Pretty sure I've actually finished this one, maybe a small touch up, but 99% happy with it.

Here tis.

Also done a rough yesty for the John and George painting. Kinda needs some obvious tweeks in the painting, but general lay out is all there. Circa 64', round the Australian trip/Hard Days Night. 50 years ago...Hard Days Night suits, though John's hair is a little longer like on the Australian tour. Listened to a bunch of Beatles yesterday and watched Hard Days Night last night, such a great film, those guys....

Here's somethin' else I haven't posted that I'll feature in this exhibition. Dylan as Woody.

So, after I finish the John and George painting in the next couple o days, I'll sketch up my last piece of the main 16 painting series. Jimi Hendrix. what song? Thinkin' "If 6 were 9". Maybe... Maybe somethin' more obvious. Maybe even Purple Haze, but at the moment...

Jimi Hendrix – If 6 Was 9 Lyrics
Yeah, sing the song, Bro

If the sun refuse to shine
I don't mind, I don't mind
If the mountains fell in the sea
let it be, it ain't me
Alright, 'cos I got my own world to look through
And I ain't gonna copy you

Now if 6 turned out to be 9
I don't mind, I don't mind
Alright, if all the hippies cut off all their hair
I don't care, I don't care
Dig, 'cos I got my own world to live through
And I ain't gonna copy you

White collared conservative flashing down the street

Pointing their plastic finger at me
They're hoping soon my kind will drop and die
But I'm gonna wave my freak flag high, high
Wave on, wave on
Fall mountains, just don't fall on me
Go ahead on Mr. Business man, you can't dress like me
Sing on Brother, play on drummer

behind the song.

Hendrix lookin' mean! In front of the Marshall stax.

Been alotta great portrait inspired by Hendrix, my favourite by Martin Sharpe. He originally printed this with Jimi playin' right handed..oops..
